How often should my chimney be swept?
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard 211, states,
“Chimneys, fireplaces, and vents shall be inspected at least once a year for soundness, freedom from deposits, and correct clearances. Cleaning, maintenance, and repairs shall be done if necessary.”
This may seem like a lot, however, you need to consider that even if you don't use your chimney very much, there is always a risk of problems such as animal nesting or other types of deterioration that could make your chimney unsafe.
When we are performing annual inspections, we can then decide if your chimney needs swept or any other maintenance.
Keeping your chimney clean will allow your heating system to work more efficiently. Better ventilation will mean less fuel to keep you warm.
Give us a call to schedule an inspection, and keep your home operating at its best!
